Tomato Picking!

So I hear going fruit picking is all the rage, and after our exhausting magic house visit, I thought Annie and I would do a little Fruit picking of our own. Only in our own back yard, because I have no idea where you go to pick someone else's fruit on a Saturday evening.
I gave Annie the go ahead to pick as many as she wanted. She filled a huge bowl full of all different types of tomatoes. She picked brandywine's, Roma's, Marzano's, and yellow pears. Tasting each type as she went. It was hilarious, she was like a kid in a candy store. The tomatoes have always been here, but I've never let her go wild and pick everything. I usually set the limit at a small cereal bowl size. When she'd filled her bowl and camped out on the porch I thought it would be good to wash the tomatoes, but Annie informed me that it was fine, stating, "my mouth is a sink," and with a smile pops another yellow pear in her mouth.

Filling her bowl.

The classic Annie half smile. Usually only seen when she's talked her way out of trouble and ends up getting her way. It's a very hidden little smile.

Pointing to her mouth, "it tickle my tongue mommy."

Realizing she gets the whole bowl to herself gets a big smile out of her.

A Magic house disaster

Let me just start off by saying that going to the Magic house on a rainy day is a BIG mistake. DO NOT attempt this deathly act, it is not worth the pain and suffering you must endure just to keep your kiddos happy. DO SOMETHING ELSE, anything else.
I should also say thank you to my sister and her husband for giving Annie and I, a one year membership for my birthday. I am so excited to be able to take Annie there, and I couldn't think of a better present, thank you. I just wish I hadn't made the mistake of going on a rainy day. It was tragic to say the least. Hundreds of people, surprisingly more adults than children herding through narrow halls, up and down stairs made for the one way traffic of little feet congested with adults and children alike fighting to get their way. Children throwing paper money in all directions. Of course Annie's favorite part was the child sized grocery store. Alas, this area was filled with children, the shelves were emptied of all but a few things out of reach lining the top back shelves, and everything was out of place it set off my OCD just looking at the pretend cash register by the door piled a mile high with plastic fruits and veggies. Upon entering I immediately started restocking the shelves, and as I walked around restocking I realized I had somehow acquired a little shadow that unstocked everything in my wake. It was not my daughter. It was, of course someones 10 maybe 11 year old son throwing everything I put on the shelves to the floor. The best part, mom just stood there and watched her son. Who are you crazy mom who lets your kid ransack a pretend store? It was when that same boy pushed Annie away from the register that I realized I couldn't take it any more. I grabbed my kid drenched with tears and left. I still shiver when I think of that little grocery store.
I hope to return early in the morning when the shelves are stocked and the 10 year old's are in school.

First day

Our morning was a little sad seeing as how Annie popped out of bed ready to go straight to school. She even slept in the swimsuit she'd picked out the night before to wear to her first day of class.  This was obviously followed by the long talk about how we can't wear swimsuits to school, followed then by the very sad news that first we had to go to Gigi's so that mommy can go to counseling, then we go to play group, have some lunch, and after that we go to school. See picture below for how she took the news.

First came anger...
Then came the pouting...
Followed by a slight smile when I told her she could watch one chapter of She-ra before we went to Gigi's.After our crazy morning that started at 6:30 we had a good time at play group, we found out my sister is having a baby boy (Thank you Lord, I think you just saved my brother in-law from a life long sentence of estrogen induced solitary ), and ate a lunch of granola bars, a vegetable sushi roll, banana's and cantaloupe. It was weird but all I had.
Then off to school we went. "stop, stop like this mommy, GO!," "no stop!," and of course "we there?" this last occurred after she yelled one of the previous quotes. Upon arrival Annie looks mildly unsure of herself.
but after a slightly awkward photo with her Ruby
all seems well.
Ok so the bag might be a little to big, but I couldn't make it any smaller (the fabric told me so). Aside from the over sized tote bag Annie had a great first day. Tomorrow might be another story, we'll see. She only had class for an hour today. Wednesday starts the real deal, a whole two and a half hours without mommy to boss around. I'm looking forward to the break, I might even let myself relax a little.

Tote Bag

So Annie's first day of school is Tuesday. I'm so excited/nervous/happy/sad. My little baby is going to school. I did get very excited about her needing a tote bag for class. A little too excited to be honest. It's the first time I felt like sewing in ages. It's the first time I've sewed for me in a long time. I think sewing for money takes away my creative abilities, and my desire to invest in the piece I'm working on, so I kinda over invested in Annie's a little. She's sure to be the only kid with a tote bag like this. The best part is that she likes it!
Doing this bag has made me realize I need to keep my sewing just for me and stop sewing for money. I will always do baby slings, but no more curtains, baby blankets, stocking, seat covers, or clothes. It takes away all the fun, and honestly I make less than $5 an hour. Financially it's a waste of my time. I will keep doing baby slings only because I love that moms want to carry their babies, and I hate to think of a baby stuck in a bucket because mom couldn't find a sling she liked.

EGGS!

So I don't remember if I posted that our girls are laying eggs or not. So I'm posting about it now. We have Eggs! We get anywhere from 2 to 5 eggs a day and that number is going to go up. Translation: we have a lot of eggs. Somehow I have managed to acquire 3 dozen eggs? What do you do with 3 dozen eggs? Well if I had the time I would make pasta and angel food cake. Both require an insane amount of eggs, but seeing as how I don't have the time I'm making a lot of scrambled eggs in the morning. These are photos of Miss Annie after going out to collect eggs after we just got home. Yeah, we are late night farmers around here (that's Banjo asleep at Annie's feet), and I don't think the girls like us disturbing their beauty sleep, but what can I do? Most night we don't get home until 10 or 10:30. That's just our life. I will explain later why our Sunday night ran so late, but not now. I need to get the photos from a friend to post with it first. (I'm so scared of losing the camera again before Annie's first day of school, that I won't take it out of the house).

and found

I found my camera this morning! Maybe it took finally giving up and accepting that it was gone, for me to finally find it. I wanted to post this morning when I found it, but I was already late for work and I had this plan of posting a picture of my lost camera, but then realized that would require another camera and after going through the many possibilities of making that happen I realized I was even later for work. So I went to work instead. And now I just got home and it's 10:40 and my three year old needs to go to bed and I need to go to bed, and the dog needs dinner and to go outside, plus I should get the eggs from the hen house before they get mixed up with the next days lot, sorry but I think this means no picture. Yeah, I should not even be blogging right now. I promise picture as soon as I have my next day off (I don't think that is till Wednesday).
